Coming to know about the chap with unique voice texture and funny gestures was a big item in itself.🤩 That was our very first night at Pratap House after admission at LNCPE in 1991. In late night our doors were banged, seniors asked all first year juniors to assemble in the common room immediately for the introduction. Clan, to which the Killer belong Introduction? We could immediately figure it out that Introduction was an acceptable respectful name given to the rituals which were known elsewhere as RAGGING . Unwillingly, looking each other's faces full of apprehensions, we made our way to the common room. In common room we were made to sit on ...

The boy from Awadh to Australia

Our Lovely Desi Global Couple

The iconically versatile, gifted and accomplished person, a strong cocktail of seriousness and humour, the man for all reasons and seasons, Dear Sanjeev Dubey wish you lots n lots of joyful returns of the day.

It was a privilege to be in the company of a such a blissful person like you.

With you I had many lovely n ugly moments together as a classmate, as a friend, as a teammate most interestingly as an opponent also.

Dubey the boy with strong Desi flavour and treasure of talent and with a strong urge to stay connected with its friendly roots always brimming with exuberance. We'll remain indebted to him, as he had created so many unforgettable funny stress busting moments for all of us, specially for section A.

This is how a Raw Material looks like before going for Processing

Our Global Desi

Dubey the boys who walked into college as a Desi guy but by his guts in gluts today he enjoys the privilege of being a global Desi who made his journey from Awadh to Australia by riding on his guts and imaginations.

He is our very own self made Sportsprenuer from the land of tigre making his presence felt on the land of Kangaroos.

I consider myself lucky that I had taken notice of worms of global flavor in his textures and gestures in very beginning. He was blessed with an extraordinary talent of strong communication skill.

He had a strong passion for copying the voice and style of the iconic Hindi commentator Sardar Jasdev Singh. And perhaps, in beginning, I was the only admirer of his that quality. He would make me to listen his version of Jasdev Singh's commentary.

Till 2001 me and Dubey stayed in close connection in Delhi when he was working at Vasant Valley School and I was at The Shri Ram School. In 2001 I quit Delhi and my connection with Dubey lost as I had been shifted to a far-flung Himalayan Wild of Uttrakhand where phone, electricity, internet, newspaper or TV were as rare as a honest neta in India. Radio was my window to the outside world.

Someday Australia will Taken Over by Indians, look at Desi folks in Aus

Philips Champion, My Life Partner in Cold Wild of Uttrakhand

That was a very cold place throughout the year. Everyday in morning coming out bed used to be a big struggle. But there was an alarm inside me as automatically at 6.30am I would twist the on-off knob of my Philips radio named Champion. Even without opening my eyes I would tune in to BBC Hindi news. Those days my Philips Champion used to sleep with me like my wife. Like any Indian wife, Champion also was a champion in talking, to whom i would always listen, listen and listen without saying anything to her.

I found Dubey back sitting inside this Radio

Recovered DUBEY from INSIDE of MY RADIO

One morning of November, I was half awake while BBC Hindi news had reached in its last segment of sports news. The Champion spoke, "Indian hockey team is on tour of Australia, now the detailed report of this Indian tour will be presented by our correspondent Sanjeev Dubey."

Listening a familiar name created a tiny curiosity, who this Sanjeev Dubey could be. Till then I had no idea of whereabouts of Sanjeev Dubey .

For a moment I thought it would be any BBC correspondent, but as soon as I heard the voice, I got a sweet current, it was our very own Dubey speaking from inside of my radio. I was looking at my radio with amazement as if Dubey would come out of the radio. What a huge & happy surprising moment that was to listen to Dubey so unexpectedly speaking inside my bed.

Those days there was only real world, virtual world of social media was in its early Childhood. After long time I started getting connected with friends through Facebook or WhatsApp then I came to know that our Dubey has become a Sportsprenuer in Australia.

Our Star with Star of All

Multitasking Sports Machine

Amazement was that, Dubey the boy with a medal of All India Interuniversity Football Competition was handling the cricket project on the land of Kangaroos. That's the USP of LNCPE that they make their students a multitasking sports machine.

If Dubey was handling Cricket then myself despite being a footballer was the incharge of Swimming in a reputed school of Delhi. I had learnt Swimming from a coach who taught me swimming without teaching me directly.

Knowingly or unknowingly I got to learn so many things from Dubey and his life. In fact for me Dubey was like a mix pickle of so many qualities and experiences.

Chuddy-Buddies

When Dubey was working in Vasant Valley School Delhi and I was in Shri Ram School Gurgaon, Once on a scorching day of  July I was in Delhi for some work. I went to meet him at his school, soon school got over. Dubey made me sit on his LML Vespa and he took me to his flat. Before reaching the room he bought some groceries and vegetables on the way. While he was buying things, I was noticing some rare and unlikely elements of maturity in Dubey.

First Time Saw an Own Boy Out of Bachelorship

We reached at his flat which was at 8th floor in Munirka, lift was not working so we had to climb up to his flat by zig-zag type stairs, which made us bath in sweat.

Life is Blue

He pushed call bell at a door at 8th floor, door was opened by a young and beautiful woman clad in thick layer of anxiousness. We got in,

"She's my wife," Dubey introduced her.

I was taken over by a happy surprise to know that our funny & punny Pandit Dubey had become Shriman Sanjeev Kumar Dubey Ji.

For me Dubey was the first ever person from our batch to whom I found in married form. Though Mohanpal had got married much before than all of us but that was an some lightning fast matter.

I was looking at Dubey with curiosity. It was bizarre to see someone being so diplomatically well behaved with you, with whom you had gone through so many lovely-ugly & wriggly-jiggly Chuddy-Buddy moments in recent past, it was becoming very difficult for me to digest that.

They were wonderful couple but that moment both of them were looking bit uncomfortable.

Were they upset because of my unwelcoming presence?

I doubted.

Global kids with Desi Father

Soon I came to know the reason of their anxiousness when a little cute baby woke-up crying in severe pain. That little cute baby was the latest addition in his family, she was daughter of Dubey. I was fascinated to see the child like Dubey had become a father of a child.

Bhabhi ji took crying baby-in-pain in her hands and said in visibly painful voice, "Bhaiya my daughter has suffered a serious burn injury. Accidentally boild water got poured on her."

I had gone speechless, not able to decide how to and what to react. That was very painful to see a baby badly crying in pain.

Dubey got busy in making some appointment with some doctor, perhaps he was making calls to AIIMS.

Food had been cooked already, after long time I got to eat some divine and soul satisfying home cooked Daal-Chawal-Roti-Sabji-Dahi which looked like a oasis in my desert like Delhi life.

I was relishing the food with some guilt. The guilt in my mind was that, perhaps Bhabhi ji must be silently frowning over Dubey, that their little daughter was suffering from burn injury and he had got his useless friend for lunch.

Somehow I kept my head down, fully concentrated over the nibbling of my dream food. By the end of meal they made me to realise that I was not an unwelcomed guest as after the meal I got a cup of Vanilla ice-cream also along with an invitation for next visit in future. They were a wonderful host. In recent past I had not been feeded with that much of care.

Kids

(nomadic bachelor style Life

At Gurgaon I was staying with some LNCPE friends in typical nomadic bachelor style. Home delivery of Food on call service had come in to existences in NCR and we used to depend on them for our meals. In lunch or dinner we used to have some beers & chicken legs and if we need to eat something else then we were at the mercy of a local Bhatia ka Dhaba, and rest of the time was kept reserved for sleeping and for playing cards.

Weekend Casino

Just for your general knowledge, Dubey also was a prolific player of cards.

On weekends, at our place in Gurgaon, there used to be a carnival of cheers with lots of beers & chicken blended with lots of gambling in which lots of LNCPEans used to participate from Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida. That was a bachelor's casino of weekends, a big Mad House. Now Dubey had taken retirement from that fascinating bachelor's world.)

After lunch Dubey ji & Bhabhi ji were ready to take their little cute daughter-in-pain to the doctor, I was heading for back to Gurgaon as in evening I used to be the incharge of swimming pool at school.

Small kids, Big Smiles

What Dubey made me Feel

From Dhaula Kua i took the bus for Gurgaon, sitting in the bus more than the delicious food, the anxious face of Dubey & Bhabhi ji & their crying daughter was making rounds in my mind. I could understand that how painful it is for any parents to see their kids in pain.

Besides this, my concern was that, only till few years back Dubey used to be the hilarious fun-machine of the batch, but now I noticed that responsibilities of family and kids had converted our Johny Lever into an Alok Nath.

I was more concerned about this as I also had got engaged and I was set to get married very soon. "Shall I also get busy like Dubey in buying Tinde, Lauki, Bhindi & Tamatar? Shall I get cut off from my friends and my weekend-casino with beers and chickens?"

The exchange of speculations between my mind and heart was going at the speed of bullet train. Dubey the boy who had given us so many reasons to laugh in past, at present he was giving me reasons to think about my future life and wife.

In wild of Panchmarhi

WITH DUE RESPECT TO GANGOPADHYAY SIR

Dubey's hilarious conversations with Respected Gangopadhyay Sir was an epic.

Gangopadhya Sir was the noblest soul in the college. He was full of qualities that a humblest father could have. He used to overlook all the child-like naughty acts of students.

In his classes Dubey used to play many funny pranks. Dubey had created an imaginary character of a spiritual guru for himself, he had named him as Param Pujya GURU MALAKAR

Wild Child

Dubey would do funny spiritual debates with Gangopadhyay Sir by giving reference of his imaginary guru MALAKAR, and sir would take it seriously. In such time to stop yourself from laughing used to be the most difficult task.

when Gangopadhyay Sir would take attendance, students will respond by saying 'Yes Sir' But Dubey would respond by saying YAFFAR in funny stammaring manner. That would make whole class to Explode with laughter.

In his class Dubey with his formal shoes on, would fold his pant up to his knees and would roam in his class like a dyslexic child.

Laughter volume will further rise When Dubey would make Gangopadhyay Sir busy in his laughable senseless talks, the class used to become like a comedy show.

This is how a film looks like before editing

Yes Dubey was one of the most comedically enlightened character of the batch, but same time when on ground he used to be a seriously consumed character between the goal posts and under the crossbar. He had blessed with tremendous leadership ability on the ground.

Dubey the Automated Leader

In 1993-94 team of Jiwaji University Gwalior went as a depleted side as four of its main defenders and goal keeper got themselves dropped due to some health issues.

As per the demand of situation roles of the players were improvised. I was made to play as right wing back, before that I had never played in that position.

All on Border

DUBEY THE AUTOMATED LEADER

But that depleted side made a fantastic run in the tournament and missed the an All India Interuniversity berth by a whisker, when we lost against Goa in Sudden Death.

Each and every player had played with more than his 100%. But apart from that the strong reason behind fantastic performance of team was the Dubey who was the goal keeper, he was instrumental in getting the attack initiated from own half. He was playing like a 12th man for us. I realised that he made me to run through with the ball and penetrate into the attack. I was not able to believe on myself that I made several long run from a position of wing back to position of a winger.

Winning with Dubey as our Custodian

As we progressed through the tournament I had started believing in Dubey so much that later I was playing according to his guidance, as he was such great reader of the game that I was blindly believing on his words.

He was blessed with the ability to make an average player to perform remarkably well and useful. He had a rock solid patience and unique quality to take a calculated risk on the ground. He would evolve himself as a commander as per the demand of the situation.

DUBEY MY OPPONENT MADE ME CRY

After BPE from LNCPE we went to DAVV Indore and Dubey moved to Kerla University for Masters. And that was the twist of luck that in 1995-96 at Osmania University Hyderabad I was playing against Dubey in the semi final of All india Interuniversity Football between DAVV Indore vs Kerala in which we ( me Prince and Tanwar) were representing DAVV Indore and Dubey was the goalkeeper of Kerala.

Winning semifinal was a guarantee for a getting a gold or silver medal of All India Interuniversity Football.

Game was going goalless. Prince n Tanwar were playing superbly in defense. I was playing in right half,  In 85th minutes during our attack, I received the ball just at goalmouth and for a moment it was only me and Dubey in one vs one situation, I had to just shoot the ball into the goal net to score the goal, that could have been the match winning Goal and ticket for my team to the final.

But unbelievably I had kicked the ball straight to the Dubey's body which got blocked and collected by Dubey and I saw helplessly Golden opportunity just going in vain.

Thalwa Club

Then in very next counter attack Kerla scored a goal on us and within no time match got over and we just saw a possible gold or silver medal slipping from our hands. Reason was me missing the obvious scoring opportunity. WE lost the semifinal.

After the match I just felt highly distressed and pained. I didn't exhibit my feeling. Team's winning streak was broken, moral got down, enthusiasm and confidence of team was shattered so badly that next in mtach for Bronze medal we lost the rhythm and got defeated against Calcutta University and Bronze medal also slipped from our hands. That moment is one of the most stressed and painful moment of my life where Dubey, very good friend of mine, was very instrumental.

Dear Dubey I'm the master in hiding my emotions and feelings, I never let others know how good or bad I'm feeling inside.

Many teammates were criticising me, I too was deeply disturbed as, despite football being a team game, I was considering myself alone responsible for keeping my team deprived of a possible All India Interuniversity medal.

Even Prince n Tanwar couldn't notice the mental trauma I was going through. I just kept silent.

CONFESSION

After reaching room I got inside the washroom and wept a lot, abused myself, slapped myself. I had never felt so dejected in life before. But outside with friends I would look normal.

Dear Dubey even today after so many years that moment still haunts me. You and that moment will remain in my memories for lifetime.

I am happy at least you got Interuniversity Football medal. Now you tell what was colour of the medal. Actually I was destined to not get a All india Interuniversity medal as that time, previous year also DAVV Indore had won silver medal, but that time I was unfortunately dropped from the team due to some local pressure politics.

We were new to Indore, there was no one to back us, so just to make a place for a local engineering student in the team I was sacrificed at very very last moment.

Anyway my dear friends Prince and Tanwar and dear you also are the medalist of Intervarsity Football competition. I'm proud of you all for this remarkable achievement.

Tharki with Murky

We 4 idiots

After so many years a film, "3 idiots" there was a dialogue in that movie -

It hurts a lot when a friend fails. But it hurts more than that if that friend tops

(जब दोस्त फेल होता है तो बहुत दुख होता है पर उससे भी ज्यादा दुख तब होता है अगर दोस्त Top कर जाता है)

Something like that was the case. 😝😝😝😝

Desi with Global Desi

I feel so proud to tell you that all of us 4 Footballers (me, Prince Tanwar and Dubey) despite saying goodbye to LNCPE,  we all achieved something remarkable, which were generally considered difficult for any Non LNCPEan.

As all 3 except me won All India Interuniversity Football medal.

I was not so lucky but still winning West Zone Football title in 1994-95 at LNCPE &  against LNCPE also was somewhat satisfying.

There are still many interesting things for me which are connected with you.

That will be shared sometimes next.

Some naughty Kolhapur moments with you Tanwar n Prince can't be shared  openly were some once in lifetime moment.

Dear Sanjeev Dubey you are an awesome person, an amazing friend, an inspiration, a perfect mix of seriousness n humor, I always look forward to see you achieving big heights and keep guiding n inspiring me by your actions.

SUGGESTION

Bhai Dubey you already have done something really great and and remarkably unique. You have already made your mark of credibility in Australia. Keep doing what you love doing.

I've told you this several times in past and telling you again that please try your hand in world of communication specially as a sports commentator or analyst. In India there are so many average quality anchors of sports programs, they are making good name and big bucks. You are already blessed with wonderful Hindi-English communication ability.

If you feel, go for a formal training or course also. My intuition says that you still haven't exploited your abilities to full. If you are not willing to work for somebody then start your own YouTube channel or start your website. You can be a commentator, an sports analyst, a story teller, a motivational speaker, a counselor,  you can be anything I strongly believe.

Happy & Blessed Family

Once again wish you a very eventful birthday n hearty wishes, stay Blessed.

Keep Rocking

Stay Blessed
